How to Draw a Laughing Gull - Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: Draw the head with a beak out of the right side of the face

Step 2: Add a circle for the eyes, and a line for the beak

Step 3: Draw the long, narrow body horizontally.

Step 4: Draw the wing, which encompasses most of the body, and then add lines for feathers.

Step 5: Draw the tail, which are a series of lines that come out of the wing

Interesting Facts about the Laughing Gull

Laughing gulls are migrating birds primarily found in North America coastal area. They are 39 – 46 cm long with a wingspan of 102 – 107 cm and they weigh about 240 – 400 g. Their rear portion and feathers are dark grey in color while the lower part of their body and tail are white in color. They feed on insects that may be present near junk or garbage bins. They even steal food from other birds. Their diet includes horseshoe crab eggs, fish and insects.

  • They produce a call that sounds like laughter and that is how they got their name, Laughing gull!
  • To be able to mark their territory, these birds reaches the breeding area a month before breeding is to begin.
  • They lure females for about two weeks by catching fish for them. This enables females to have enough energy for laying eggs.
  • Both male and female laughing gulls provide warmth to eggs required for their development that eventually allows them to hatch. Thereafter, they take turns looking for food and taking care of their young ones.
