How to Draw an American Mink - Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: For the head, draw an upward curve which then bends under itself and then angles down.

Step 2: In the point of the head, draw a small circle for the nose. Draw a small seed shape for the eye, and two semicircles behind this for ears.

Step 3: Draw a long curve from the back of the head and a shorter one from the front end of the head.

Step 4: At the bottom end of the front of the body, draw two small curves that end in a three-pointed shape for a front leg.

Step 5: Make a similar shape from step 4 above the first for a second front leg.

Step 6: Draw a curve going down from the front of the body, which ends in two curves that meet in three points for a hind foot.

Step 7: Make another, smaller shape like the one in step 6 just above it.

Interesting Facts about American Mink

The mink is native to North America and is the cutest member of the weasel family. The mink is usually harvested for they great qualities and colors in fur for clothing. By 2005 America became the fourth largest breeder in the world for mink fur.American minks have a long slender body eleven to twenty one inches long. Their short webbed feet make them an excellent swimmer. Their tail is very long and comprises of one third of their bodies. They have thick and glossy hair with a white patch under their throat and chin.

  • Minks are semi-aquatic and can be found near streams, rivers or any other body of water.
  • Average life span of a mink is 1 to 3 years. Young fall easy to predators, die of disease or starvation. When they reach adult age they can live up to 7 years.
  • Minks will live in burrows from muskrats and other occupants if empty or chase the other occupants out.
  • Minks are nocturnal and hunt at night but can also be found out during the day.

Minks have a bounding gait allowing them to swim and climb trees. They can swim up to three hours at a time in warm water. They can swim in cold water but not for very long. Their main predators are wolves, foxes and great horned owls.
